In honor of Nola’s birthday, we had family photos taken by my long-time friend and extremely talented photographer, Leah Fry of Sentimental Soul Photography.  I’ve raved before about Leah’s skills in capturing our family, and these photos are nothing short of breathtaking.  No words I could write could do them justice, so I will let the photos speak for themselves.  We are so thankful to Leah for these sweet pictures of our tiny toddler! Everything has Changed

In case I haven’t mentioned it, Nola’s birthday is this coming week, and I’m all kinds of nostalgic about it.  I’m still having a hard time coming to terms with the fact that it’s been an entire year, yet at the same time, it feels like so much longer.  It’s hard to imagine a time when she wasn’t here; our lives sharply divided into before and after.  So much of that day is a blur, and I know it will only get worse as the years go on.  So in honor of her last days as a baby, I’m revisiting that terrifying, chaotic, magical day when our little firecracker made her debut.

Summer Swims + New Perspective

This weekend, we took Noly Poly to her first pool day at the water park!  After some initial protest due to the cold water, she settled in and LOVED it!  She spent the entire time just giggling and splashing her hands in the water.  I think we have a little fishy on our hands!  It’s so exciting to see her discover brand new things that I’ve taken for granted a long time ago.  Experiencing life through your child’s eyes is such a gift – imagine if we all approached our every day lives with that much enthusiasm!  Continue reading

Wishes for the Baby

I should have started this blog a long time ago; preferably at or before the time my daughter was born.  (It hasn’t been a year yet – I’m still good – right?)

Because “better late than never” seems to be a philosophy I cling to these days, I thought there was no better subject for my first post than to complete my own “Wishes for Baby” to my sweet girl.  At my baby shower in August 2015, my sweet sister in law created cards that each guest completed.  On the cards were wishes for the baby; wishes for what they would love, what they would learn, who they would be.  I truly cherish each of these cards, and reading them brings back so many wonderful memories of anticipation and eagerly waiting to see who this little girl would be when she arrived.

Now that Nola is almost 9 months old, I realize that I never completed my own list of wishes for her.  To be truthful though, I’m glad – I’m sure that had I completed this card before she was born, it would look far different from the wishes I have for her today.  And in five years, 10 years, and so on.

My Dearest Nola Claire:

I hope you love lifting others up; being an encourager, and using your voice, your talents, to impact the world for Christ

I hope you see the beauty in the ordinary

I hope you aren’t afraid to stand up for what is right, even if you stand alone

I hope you laugh early and often

I hope you become a leader among your friends

I hope you respect yourself – always.  Know your worth and fight to defend it

I hope you get to travel the world to truly understand its beauty and how fortunate you are

I hope you ignore peer pressure.  Believe me – not everyone is doing whatever you think they are

I hope you grow in knowledge and capital “T” Truth

I hope you never forget that mom & dad are always in your corner. We love you always, we are proud of you, we pray for you, and we don’t have all the answers.  But we know the One who does, the One who trusted you to us.  And we will live our lives to point you to Him
