Hi! I’m Megan, aka Meg, aka the gal behind this little blog. Time for me to talk a little bit about me!
Yes, my real name is Megan (obviously) and I usually don’t go by the nickname “Meg”. My friends in undergrad started calling me Secret Meg in Spring 2018 when I wouldn’t tell them what graduate school I chose to go to right away, and the name stuck with most of them. I really was not happy with that nickname, like really not happy, but I realized it honestly was not a big deal and that I shouldn’t sweat the small stuff. Might as well make the most of it, right?
I’m 23 years of age and I am from just outside the Milwaukee Metro area. I grew up in a very small town in Wisconsin called East Troy. Wisconsin holds an incredibly dear place in my heart. It truly does have its very own culture, which I really love. I love how things that are as simple as Brewer games, Summerfest, and classic Wisconsin foods can bring an incredibly diverse group of people together. Although I don’t drink beer or eat brats (solely because I’m vegetarian), I definitely indulge in my fair share of cheese curds, frozen custard, cream puffs, and Kringle once in a while. And I’ll even watch a Packer game if it happens to be on!
After I graduated high school, I moved to Bloomington, Indiana for college (go Hoosiers!). I got my Bachelor’s degree in oboe performance at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. No one believes me when I tell them one of the best music schools in the US is in the middle of Indiana! Music is a huge part of my life, something that I’ve put hours and hours and hours into. It’s supposed to be my life and the only thing I want to do with my life. But I have other passions too.
I’m so thankful for my time at IU and the friends I made there, the cat I adopted (his name is Ezra and he’s three years old now!!), and the wonderful teachers I got the opportunity to work with. And I’m so grateful for the town of Bloomington! Seriously one of the most wonderful little towns with a vibrant community and incredible food. So much amazing food. God, I miss all of Bloomington’s food!
So, what the heck am I doing in Cleveland? I’m in graduate school. Yep, paying more money to get a degree in something I love but might not be what I actually end up doing. I’m getting my Master’s degree in oboe performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music, which is placed in the wonderful University Circle area- where all the great cultural institutions of Cleveland live. I’m new here, but I’ve already learned so much about the thriving group of local businesses and makers that Cleveland has, and I really want to explore and share them with you all.
Since being in Cleveland, I’ve finished one year of school, worked in and quit retail, become a barista, adopted another cat (Julian, who is almost 2 years old and from Affogato Cat Cafe in Tremont!), and started my blog.
So I’ve been talking about school for a while. What is this blog actually about? It mentions wellness, right?
Indeed, my blog mentions wellness. Around March of 2017, I decided to change my life. My initial plan was to only lose weight, but that journey morphed into a completely different lifestyle. I value wellness and self-care so much now, and I want to share my journey with my readers and what I have learned along the way. I’ve struggled with my weight literally since birth and, honestly, still do. I found love and passion for so many different health foods and the brands behind them, I learned how restorative exercise can actually be, and also how spin class is, uh, life-changing! I learned how to be mindful in most situations where my brain was just on autopilot before. Also, I learned that self-care isn’t just about overpriced face masks and manicures. It’s been a road with a lot of those famous Cleveland potholes, but it’s been so worth it.
This blog exists so I can share my life and passions with my readers. I also want to show people that health and wellness is for everyone, not just people that can afford Lululemon. I want to pair this with my love of the Midwest and local restaurants and shops to deliver the best content I can to you all. That’s my ultimate goal.
Thanks for visiting my little baby blog and making it this far! I’m excited for you to read my content and get to know me. And I’m so pumped to get to know you all! Let’s be friends.
